Research in the School is of a high calibre by both national and international standards. The School ranks either first, second or third within Australia on a variety of research performance criteria and academic staff play an important part in the policy issues and debate within Australia. The School frequently has important national conferences in economics, econometrics, economic history and superannuation and has an active seminar series program and a program of one-day workshops. Many of the members of the School play a prominent role in relevant societies and provide senior advisory roles to government and business. The School also attracts considerable research funding from the Australian Research Council and other bodies.

The School runs Conferences and Seminar series throughout the year covering a wide range of research topics.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degrees in Economics are designed for students wishing to further their studies in Economics.

Centre for Applied Economic Research

Founded in 1976 the Centre for Applied Economic Research (CAER) is not only the first Centre to be established in the Australian School of Business, it is also one of the oldest in the University.

Centre for Pensions and Superannuation

Founded in 2002 the Centre for Pensions and Superannuation (CPS) brings together a number of pension specialists whose core interests lie in the fields of public and labour economics, finance, and actuarial studies.

Centre for Energy and Environmental Markets

Founded in 2004 the Centre for Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM) brings together researchers in UNSW and partner organisations with the key objective of providing Australian research leadership in the interdisciplinary design, analysis and performance monitoring of energy and environmental markets and their associated policy frameworks.

Australian Institute for Population Ageing Research

The Australian Institute for Population Ageing Research (AIPAR) as a UNSW Research Institute is to capitalise on the strong interest and commitment by UNSW researchers and potential private and public sector, which has been reinforced through the recent NHMRC/ARC and ARC Linkage Grant successes. Operating as a funded network, AIPAR will draw together multi disciplinary teams of population ageing researchers. It is anticipated that AIPAR will generate considerable growth in UNSW research outcomes and lead to a successful application for Centre of Excellence funding within the next three years.
